Hulu is throwing their hat into the live action Superhero ring with an order for a Marvel's Runaways drama series. The series will be based on the fan-favorite Marvel comic created by Brian K. Vaughan and Adrian Alphona, that feature a group of teenagers who discover their parents are members of an evil crime organization known as The Pride and soon discovered they inherited powers themselves. The series is being developed by Gossip Girl creators Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, with Marvel Television and ABC Signature. Reports indicate that Hulu has ordered a pilot plus additional scripts with a full season greenlight in sight.
The series originally debuted in July 2003 as a part of the Marvel Tsunami imprint. The series only lasted eighteen issues and was canceled in September 2014. Due to high trade collection sales Marvel brought the series back with the original creators in February 2005. The original creators left the with issue twenty-four of the second volume. The series continued with some of the most talented creator teams that include Josh Whedon & Michael Ryan, Terry Moore & Humberto Ramos, Christopher Yost & James Asmus, and Kathryn Immonen & Sara Pichelli until it was cancelled with volume 3 issue #14 in September 2009, although it was initially said to be a hiatus.
Not much is known about the series in relation to how much of the source material will be used but what we do know is that it will be written by Schwartz and Savage and tell the story of six diverse teenagers who can barely stand each other but who must unite against a common foe – their parents. Which sounds true to the original comic.
The original Runaways were Alex Wilder, a prodigy who leads the team, Nico Minoru who learns she is a powerful witch, Karolina Dean who discovers she is an alien, Gertrude Yorkes who learns of her telepathic link to a dinosaur, Chase Stein who steals his father's futuristic gloves, while young Molly Hayes who learns she is a mutant with incredible strength. The kids band together and defeat their parents, and atone for the sins of their parents by fighting the new threats trying to fill in the void left with the Pride gone.
The show has room for expansion as the team grew and changed. After being betrayed by AlexWilder who was killed by the Gibborim (The Pride's God) they are later joined by the shape-shifting Skrull Xavin, plant-manipulator Klara Pras and a cyborg named Victor Mancha, who is the the son of Avengers villain Ultron.

The show comes from a series of conversations Schwartz and Savage had with executives from Marvel Television over the past year. The project was developed under the overall deal Schwartz and Savage’s Fake Empire had at ABC Studios where Marvel Television also is based.

Schwartz and Savage will serve as showrunners on Marvel’s Runaways, and executive producers which they share with Jeph Loeb (Marvel’s Jessica Jones) and Jim Chory (Marvel’s Daredevil) Fake Empire’s Lis Rowinski will serve as a producer as well.
